Scream: 20 WTF Moments

10. The Commentary On Toxic Fandoms

Another pole of Scream's social commentary relates to toxic fandoms, of people who make their favourite IP integral to their personality, and so whenever it's attacked or "messed with," they lash out as though it's deeply personal.

This is indicated in one brief but amusing scene when we see Richie watching a YouTube video featuring real life horror bloggers James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca, who run the horror YouTube channel Dead Meat.

In their video, we hear the two complaining about Stab 8, from the introduction of a new flamethrower weapon for Ghostface, to a new gold-plated mask, and even the fact that it's called Stab rather than Stab 8.

The video includes the hashtag #RedoStab8, clearly making fun of online crybabies who couldn't handle Star Wars: The Last Jedi not being what they wanted and insisting that Disney re-shoot the movie - which, of course, they never would.

It's especially interesting that we see Richie watching this video, providing a subtle hint that he's the killer and what his motive is.
