16. Dewey Becomes "Punished Dewey"
The first legacy character to be introduced back into the narrative is Dewey Riley (David Arquette), who has been living on hard times since we last saw him 11 years ago.
He now resides in a trailer park, having gotten divorced from Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) after he decided he couldn't face living with her in New York for her new reporting gig. He tried it for just two months before bailing out.
Dewey abruptly left and ended their marriage, at which point he became a reclusive alcoholic and a physical wreck, suffering from nerve damage and sporting a mean limp due to his previous run-ins with Ghostface.
To get by, Dewey drinks and watches Gale on his giant TV every morning. It's a depressing turn of events for a major fan favourite character, though also effectively reimagines Dewey as a "punished," badass version of himself.
Gone is the comic relief sidekick - now Dewey is a gruff, grizzled, worn down gunslinger being called back into service for One Last Job. And sadly, we all know what that means (but we'll get to that later).
