Shang-Chi: 10 Things You Need To Know
2. This Will Be Shang Chi's First Real Appearance Outside The Comics
There is a good reason why Shang-Chi is unknown to Marvel's film and TV devouts. He's never appeared in anything besides the comics.
Since the start of the MCU in 2008, Marvel Studios has successfully conceived every major superhero, rebooted some of the previous hit-and-miss attempts, and left Fox and Sony to sweep up the rest. So what happens next?
One of the boldest and most intelligent projects of recent times has been Black Panther, which was groundbreaking for a whole host of reasons, but especially because it marked the first MCU film to revolve around a black protagonist. Likewise, Shang-Chi will be the first central Asian character to star in his own comic book film.
Marvel studios have also successfully dropped the fad which many superhero films in the 90s and 2000s were guilty of. And that was feeling obliged to redesign the image of a classic comic book character to such extremes that he/she, not only irritated comic fans but were only faintly reminiscent of their paper-original. Given recent successes, there will be no concern over this with the Shang-Chi movie. His identity as a Asian martial artist will likely be executed with faithfulness and pride.
