Shang-Chi: Every Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Ying Li

Shang Chi
Marvel Studios

Ying Li (Fala Chen) is a guardian of her home village Ta Lo and the mother of both Shang-Chi and Xialing (Meng'er Zhang). While having only a relatively small role in the movie, she's basically the dramatic lynchpin of the entire story.

Li shines during her introductory scene at the start of the film, where she disarms Wenwu (Tony Leung) both literally and figuratively with her charms and fighting skills - no matter that he's equipped with the Ten Rings.

Actress Chen certainly does a fantastic job with the physical requirements of the part, but Li is also more of a plot-motivating device than a majorly fleshed-out character in her own right, so she can't rank any higher than this.

That's not really much of a knock, though - she did exactly what she needed to do, which was explain how Wenwu became the man he is today.
