5. Who Is Katy?
It seems that almost every superhero in the MCU has to have either a sidekick or a love interest to go through their journey with them. It would appear that this role is taken in Shang-Chi by Katy, a friend of the titular character and someone that doesn't seem to have any place in the superhero world.
However, there is bound to be more to this movie than meets the eye, and with Shang-Chi's father already not being exactly what he seemed to his son, fans can't take for granted what they think they already know about Katy. Right now, her role in the movie could take just about any form.
There are no obvious connections to any characters from the comics that jump to mind immediately, however that doesn't mean that there won't be inspiration taken.
In Disney+'s Loki series, Sylvie appears to be a mix between Lady Loki and Enchantress from the source material, so a similar thing could be happening with Katy and a character from the comics yet to be revealed.
Awkwafina is currently one of the hottest properties in Hollywood, particularly in Disney's circles, as she voiced Sisu in Raya and the Last Dragon, and is slated to appear in The Little Mermaid as well as Shang-Chi.
If Marvel Studios are smart, they will have given her a juicy character that will keep her around in the franchise for some time to come.
