9. What Will Bruce Banner Do Next?
It’s no secret that with the end of Phase Three and the Infinity Saga has come a new dawn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has meant change in many different respects, including the fact that the original Avengers are depleting fast.
Tony and Natasha are dead, Steve is retired and potentially on the Moon, while Clint has seemingly passed his superhero torch onto Kate Bishop. Thor is guaranteed to return at some point in the future, but what about Bruce Banner? Does the franchise’s original Hulk still have a story to tell?
If the finale would have ended without his return from Sakaar, you’d have had to say yes. This hinted at a huge story, potentially in the realms of World War Hulk, but now that he is already back, who is to say? There are other Hulks in the franchise that could now continue what Banner started, so is he truly a necessary piece of the puzzle anymore?
The Shang-Chi post-credit scene confirmed that Bruce is still involved with whatever super team is running things on Earth these days, but his role could potentially be limited to something of a cameo here and there. The time is right to bring through some fresh MCU blood, but will Bruce’s gamma-infused blood stick around?
