Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - 15 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

9. Nice Coat... Sin City's Marv was always designed to be "Conan in a trenchcoat" and his outfit was always meant to be as important as the iconic garbs of the likes of The Terminator. We're reminded of the importance of that trenchcoat immediately in A Dame To Kill For as the "Just Another Saturday Night" prologue - which is clearly designed to be a breathless reintroduction into the world, relying on its best character - shows the birth of a recurring joke relating to Marv's choice of outfit. As he faces off against a group of frat boys that he stops burning a tramp alive, one of the assailants calls him "Bernini Boy", which Marv mishears, but clearly assumes is a criticism. It's clearly a soft spot for Marv, as the comics has him almost obsessing over quality coats: he might not have a job or much money, but he has a taste for fine outdoor wear, and tends to take trenchcoats off his victims along with the character-making line "That's one damn fine coat your wearing!". At one point, he asked a hitman sent to kill him to remove his coat so he wouldn't bleed on it before interrogating him.
