Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Fan Service Moments That Will Make You Groan
6. "Fair And Square"
Donald Glover's take on Lando Calrissian is one of the best elements of Solo: A Star Wars Story. His connection with Han presents a number of opportunities to foreshadow future story developments, including the reunion of the characters in Empire Strikes Back and the subsequent betrayal that leads to Han being frozen in carbonite.
In the film, Lando and Han first meet over a game of Sabacc. Glover's character cheats to win and then runs out on the gang when the heist begins to go south. He is next seen in the final scene of the movie, where Han challenges him to another game of Sabacc. This time, Han scuppers Lando's methods of gaining an unfair advantage and convinces him to bet the Millennium Falcon. Unsurprisingly, Han wins and declares that he beat Lando "fair and square" to win the ship.
This is a clear and exhausting callback to the line in Empire Strikes Back in which Han reminds Lando that he lost the Falcon to him "fair and square". It's yet another example of how Solo feels the need to tie up every stray reference and line of dialogue from the original films.
