The third act of Solo: A Star Wars Story is devoted largely towards setting up the sequels that have been hinted at on numerous occasions. Alden Ehrenreich himself suggested in a recent interview that he signed a deal for three movies when he took the part. As the movie draws close to its end, there's a tantalising hint that Qi'ra is more deeply involved in the criminal underworld than Han believes her to be.

That manifests in a scene in which she addresses a hooded figure appearing to her via a hologram. The figure then removes his hood to reveal the now slightly more aged visage of Darth Maul, who was last seen tumbling to his death having been sliced in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's a shocking reveal for viewers.

For hardcore Star Wars fans, though, this revelation isn't as dramatic as it is for other audiences. Maul has returned from the dead in animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels so, for those people, it's just another dash of fan service.
