Phil Lord and Chris Miller reportedly aimed for a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe when shooting the movie, and while there's not too much of that left in Ron Howard's version, it is very much apparent through the character of Rio.

Voiced by Jon Favreau, the space monkey is effectively Solo's take on Rocket Raccoon, a loud-mouthed, wise-cracking creature with a penchant for flying ships and firing guns.

Like with Val, he's not in it a whole lot, which means he's not as high as he might otherwise have been, but he's one of the best parts of the movie's first third and Favreau does some hilarious voice work.
