1. It's Not As Funny As The Original

One of the big highlights of the first film was its shamelessly goofy humour, both in terms of Jim Carrey's relentlessly funny mugging as Robotnik and the genuinely hilarious banter between Sonic and Tom.

Sadly the script's gags are considerably more hit-and-miss this time around. The decision to basically fashion Knuckles as this series' answer to the Guardians of the Galaxy's Drax - a sandpaper-dry, sarcasm-averse brute - is smart, though there's ultimately only so much that can be done with it.

Robotnik's one-liners and physical gags don't feel quite so fresh this time around, and the script relies far more heavily on pop-culture references than its predecessor. This, does, however result in a gut-bustingly funny line about the feud between Vin Diesel and The Rock.

All in all, though, the humour lacks the quirky inspiration of its predecessor. But now, accepting these issues, here's why Sonic 2 is absolutely worth watching...
