5. Is It Family Friendly?

The one thing that cannot be disputed is that this film is very much family friendly.

There is one badly misjudged scene involving a bar fight, but the worst we see is a punch in the face. While Carrey's humour largely falls flat, his natural energy makes him the perfect villain for this kind of film. There is a lot of pop references that will go way over the heads of the young ones, but there are no innuendos or inappropriate jokes slotted in.

The only problem for this being a family film is the minimal interest level for the parents. The jokes clearly targeting the older viewers consistently fall flat, with Carrey's Doctor Robotnik the chief culprit.

There are a number of script inconsistencies that annoyed the hell out of me as a parent, but it is definitely a tolerable experience for mums, dads and grandparents... if not all that enjoyable.
