Everything about this trailer screams the early 2000s in a way that feels entirely uncomfortable. And for good reason; rumor has it that the script for this film has just been kicking around Hollywood since then and is just not getting made.

Which makes perfect sense. This seems exactly like the kind of film that would have gotten greenlit immediately in the aftermath of the success of the live-action Scooby-Doo films. Instead, here it is over a full decade later, with an all too outdated formula, being trotted out like a brand new coming attraction.

This is also, assumedly, how we get truly awful attempts at modernizing the humor like Dr. Robotnik's overlong introduction scene essentially amount to thirty seconds of build up for a "he says you're basic" punch line that already feels about two years too late.

The entirety of this trailer feels like it just stepped out of a time machine from the pop cultural hellscape that was the early 2000s and it is horrifying.
