6. It Will (And Won't) Be Connected To The MCU

The main source of controversy regarding Sony's little slice of the MCU has been in relation to its links with mainstream Marvel continuity. Both Feige and Pascal have struggled to clarify the issue in the past, but, in June, the latter reiterated that both Silver and Black and Venom will "exist in the same reality" as Peter Parker et al.

Although Marvel have been far more explicit in backing up the link between the MCU's TV shows and the films themselves than they have Sony's projects, it seems a similar situation is at hand. While Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage very much reside in the MCU, and indeed, make repeated reference to it, the likelihood of them tasselling with their big screen counterparts is very low.

Despite this, the Defenders still very much exist in the same reality as the Avengers, Spider-Man, and everyone else. The fact that they aren't in the films explicitly doesn't detract from the inherent quality on Netflix either, which is a fact that Sony will undoubtedly be aware of.

While the road to getting a definitive answer on the matter was long and arduous, it should be enough to satisfy longtime fans of both Venom and Spidey. After all, comic book films have entertained self-contained narratives for decades now, and Venom - in all his hulking, grotesque glory - is a perfect fit for one.
