Spectre Reviews: 11 Early Reactions You Need To Know

7. There Are Loads Of Nods To Classic Bond Films

Furthering its attempt to bring some of that old-school charm to all the grit, there are reportedly a ton of references to classic Bond films in Spectre, making it "a particular treat for 007 nerds" according to Variety. The Daily Mail called the nods "playful", and drew particular attention to a fight on a train between Bond and Dave Bautista's henchman Mr. Hinx, which feels reminiscent of the train fight in From Russia with Love. In addition to Bautista's near-mute Hinx being noted as a classic Bond trope in of himself, Screen Daily remarked that SPECTRE's base, residing in a meteorite crater, "will bring a fond smile to those who remember Ken Adam's extravagant volcano creation for 1967€™s You Only Live Twice." Whether or not more casual viewers might find these affectations goofy, they're likely going to go down a storm with older, more hardcore fans.
