In the comics, Spider-Man finds the Venom Symbiote on an alien battle while a godly entity is having a contest to decide whether good or evil is stronger. Unsurprisingly, the writers of Spider-Man 3 knew that Venom's introduction would need a simpler explanation.

So, how do you introduce this iconic supervillain? Well, when the Spider-Man comics were rebooted in the millennium, Venom was rewritten as a biosuit created by Peter Parker's father.

Although the biosuit was designed to eradicate cancer from the wearer, it had the side-effect of making the wearer become violent and so, the project was abandoned. Eddie Brock stumbled upon the biosuit and became Venom.

That sounds like a really cool idea. But instead of doing that for the movie, the Symbiote literally falls from the sky and lands right beside Peter Parker. Of every place on Earth it could have landed, it fell beside a superhero. How convenient.
