In the original movie, Norman Osborn becomes psychotic after being injected with the Oz formula. Recognising that he has clearly become unhinged, his co-workers force him out of his own company. This causes Osborn to snap (more so) and he decides to go on a killing spree.

When he first appears as the Green Goblin, Osborn flies through a parade on a weaponised glider, blowing up buildings, shooting Spider-Man, and nearly killing Mary Jane Watson. When he sees his old work colleagues, Osborn hurls a pumpkin bomb at them, shredding them down to their skeletons.

Wow. That's a pretty nifty bomb. That could kill Spider-Man in a second. Nevertheless, Goblin decides to never use this weapon again. I have no idea why. That would have ended the battle at the end of the movie in a heartbeat.
