Spider-Man 2017: 10 Things Marvel Must Get Right

9. Keep Peter Parker As Spider-Man

With Spider-Man in reboot territory for the second time, many have suggested that Peter Parker should be cast aside in favour of Ultimate Spider-Man's Miles Morales. There is some great reasoning behind this. There have been two versions of Peter Parker on film already and Morales is of black, Hispanic decent which would add some great cultural diversity to the roster of ever-increasing Avengers. Had this been a straight reboot by Sony then perhaps the time would be right, but this is the first chance audiences have had to see how Spider-Man fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Iron Man, the Hulk and Thor. It would be like going straight for the Bucky Barnes' version of Captain America or the female Thor; audiences would feel like they had been cheated out of seeing the original persona of the hero. Peter Parker is the most well-known incarnation of Spider-Man and as this is a reboot of sorts, he needs representing as he was always intended. Like Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, Marvel can play the long game with their franchise, confident that if an actor moves on, there is another who can take that place. If the actor chosen to play Parker decides not to continue after once their inevitably multiple-film contract, then Morales can enter the scene, giving you Spider-Man for many more years.
