The Rumour

There's an alternative out there to Oscorp being behind the Stark Tower purchase too. Could it perhaps be the case that the Fantastic Four have bought the site as the new Baxter Building instead? That would certainly fit with the countdown motif that was included on the building's signage...

Even more intriguingly, there's another rumour linked to the Fantastic Four's presence from Spider-Man 3 onwards, suggesting that Reed Richards will be established as Peter Parker's new mentor in place of Tony Stark.

Response

The building being the Baxter Building is an intriguing one, because it organically brings in Reed Richards without having to do some sort of origin that explains where the Fantastic Four have been and also sets up them becoming empowered at a later date.

The idea of him being Peter's mentor DOES fit with Spider-Man's tenure in the Fantastic Four in the comics and the fact that he'd naturally gravitate towards another genius scientist, but would Marvel be so quick to replace Tony and suggest that Peter will simply attach himself to any potential mentor? That would dilute the impact and the weight of Peter and Tony's relationship completely.
