Spider-Man 3: 13 Major Rumours Ranked Worst To Best
8. Spider-Man Could Be Sold Back To Disney
The Rumour
Despite those rumblings that Spider-Man might be heading out of the MCU after one more film (or a couple more films, more likely), there's an alternative line of thinking that suggests that Disney might be in the market to make his homecoming more permanent.
Mikey Sutton's at it again, this time suggesting that a deal to take Spidey's rights back to Marvel and Disney maybe in the works:
“Disney wants to buy Spider-Man. While rumors had circulated before the Sony-Disney dispute of such a purchase, it was mere speculation, especially the erroneous high number that was quoted. Disney is looking to offer in the range of $4bn to $5bn for Spider-Man. But now the questions will be asked. He’s Marvel’s most well-known hero, and with Iron Man and Captain America gone, they need an anchor in the MCU.”
Response
If Disney COULD buy back Spider-Man, there wouldn't even be a conversation about whether they would - it would already be happening. Obviously, there are more complex things going on that complicate matters somewhat, but there would be no question of willingness.
What makes this one slightly more interesting is that both Amazon and Apple have been linked with moves to buy Sony quite recently and that would mean the rights to Spidey would revert to Marvel anyway according to some reports (though that's far from concrete). If Sony are looking to sell, they might see the opportunity to shift on Spider-Man prior to that as an intriguing, lucrative possibility.
