Spider-Man: Far From Home Review - 9 Ups & 4 Downs

1. There's Just Too Much Slapstick

Somebody involved in Far From Home's conception is a big fan of Mr Bean, by the look of it. That can be the only reason why there's so much slapstick.

Now, nobody is saying that there isn't a place for slapstick, but again, it always works better when it's sparingly used and it's a little too liberally splashed around here. One fight scene in particular includes not one but TWO pratfalls by Spider-Man and at times it definitely feels like the film-makers have a bigger appetite for physical comedy than the audience probably will.

There's also a lot of shtick in the film as well and it gets close to wearing thin on a fair few occasions, eliciting something closer to an eyeroll than a laugh. It's not entirely fatal, to be fair, but the balance of humour is a lot less artfully crafted than Homecoming.
