Spider-Man: Homecoming - 10 Valid Criticisms That Can't Be Ignored
2. All The Product Placement
It's a superhero movie and a blockbuster moreover, so of course, there was always going to be a ton of product placement in the mix. The MCU is pretty hit-and-miss as far as the subtlety of its placements goes (who can forget Baskin Robbins in Ant-Man?), but Spider-Man is absolutely, unassailably rife with it.
It's hard not to roll your eyes at the repeated presence of the Death Star Lego set during the film, especially as Disney of course owns both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, and that's without mentioning the blatant shilling for Audi (with one shot even holding tight on the car's LCD dash display), Doritos, Dell laptops, Sony TVs (because of course) and much, much more.
This is even ickier when you consider the extensive tie-in commercials, many of them starring Tom Holland, that were aired ahead of Homecoming's release. Was that not enough brand visibility? Christ.
