SEE! TOLD YOU SO!

After months of will-she-be/won't-she-be speculation, it turns out that Zendaya's Michelle actually is this universe's version of Mary Jane Watson. At least that's the big suggestion when she reveals that her friends "call me MJ".

Quite why Marvel tried to keep this secret after it leaked remains to be seen, because it's not a particularly ruinous thing to know ahead of the film (even though it's framed like a big twist reveal). And all the frequent denials have done is give the cynics who say she still isn't the real MJ ammunition for their argument.

But this is different to the Dark Knight Rises' Robin twist (which this was way too close to for comfort), and there's no reason to doubt at all that she will be taking Mary Jane's place as Peter's romantic interest in future. Just consider how she looks at him in their final scene together - that's a hell of a loaded glance.
