Spider-Man: Homecoming Details Definitely Hinting At Iron Spider Suit
Sadly, we probably won't get to see the mech-arms...
As soon as it was revealed that Spider-Man would be joining Captain America: Civil War, it was widely assumed that we'd get to see some version of the classic Iron Spider costume that plays such a key part in the resolution of the story arc and its aftermath.
Sadly, we didn't get to see the iconic gold and red design, but the bones of the same idea were certainly there. Tony Stark did provide technology to Peter Parker specifically, after all. It just didn't come with giant golden legs.
On the page, the tech-augmented suit came with lots of bells and whistles, but it also had a tracking device that Tony Stark was using to evaluate Spidey's powers in order to work out how to take him down if necessary. It was that deception that ultimately led to Spider-Man defecting to join Captain America's forces.
So could we see the same arc in Spider-Man: Homecoming? The pair have a similar mentor/mentee dynamic, and we already know about some augmentations to the suit, but it looks like Stark has built in some safety nets.
According to details from the set visits to Homecoming, Spider-Man's new suit contains not only a Training Wheels mode to limit his use of its new features, but also a tracking device to allow Stark to find him. Couple that with the in-built AI, and there's a very good chance that what we're seeing is indeed the MCU's version of the Iron Spider suit.
It would be interesting to see a wedge driven between Iron Man and Spider-Man by the end too - particularly if it draws Spidey to the rest of the underground Avengers for the start of Infinity War...
