14. Mac Gargan

Initially, it looked like Michael Mando's Mac Gargan was going to be killed off comically quickly without ever really impacting the new Spider-verse when he ate a car head on during the Staten Island Ferry disaster sequence. Had that been the case, and Watts had used an important villain's name - and a hugely talented actor - for a cheap fan-baiting moment, it would have been terrible, but it turns out it was all just a set-up.

When Mando's character name was withheld all the way through production, it seemed inevitably he would be playing someone recognisable and important, and the revelation that he's going to return as a vengeful Scorpion for the Homecoming sequel is great.

For now, all we really got to admire was Mando's snarling menace at Toomes in prison (and his bad-ass facial scar and painfully pinned arm), but there's lots of promise for the future there.
