7. Liz Toomes Was Nothing But Bait

Pre-release marketing materials suggested that actress Laura Harrier would in fact be playing Peter Parker's high school classmate Liz Allan, but as it turned out, Marvel decided to make Liz into a composite of Allan and Adrian Toomes' daughter Valeria.

This is particularly interesting as it was originally rumoured that Vulture would in fact end up being Michelle's father, but instead the perfectly-pitched twist proved genuinely shocking in its ability to keep audiences largely clueless ahead of time.

Some have suggested that Liz's large house, where she holds a house party mid-way through the movie, might nod towards Toomes' criminal enterprising (having a house blatantly beyond his means), but even so, practically nobody's going to pick up on that until a second viewing.

While it seems incredibly unlikely that Liz will be back for any future movies, as she is seen moving away to Oregon at the end of the film, she ultimately served a solid narrative function in terms of distracting from the MJ twist and ensuring Vulture's acts fire a little closer to home for Peter.
