Spider-Man Homecoming Trailer 2: 12 Major Plot Reveals
8. The Staten Island Ferry, Feat. Iron Man
So, how can Spidey prove himself? While he does tackle a few smaller, street-level crimes, such as the corner building getting blown-up, and the bank robbery with the masked villains we saw in the last trailer, it's going to take something bigger.
How about stopping the Staten Island Ferry from being ripped in half and then sinking, while full of passengers?
Yeah, that'll do it. Vulture and his cronies target the ferry, which works as a target because of the scale of the thing, the number of passengers, and the fact that it'll make for a visually impressive sequence.
This looks like one of the movie's best scenes, with a clear homage to Spider-Man 2 to boot, and probably comes around the mid-point. We also know that while Spidey's efforts are commendable, they're not enough, with Iron Man having to fly in and save the day.
It's also suggested, and certainly backed-up by Tony's words, that Spider-Man's presence only escalates the problem: after he takes out some of the lower-level goons, the Vulture himself arrives on the scene, and that's when the ship gets spliced in two.
