Audiences rejoiced to see Tobey Maguire's version of the Wall-crawler for the first time since 2007's Spider-Man 3. Many fans had hoped that he and Andrew Garfield's Peter would return for this film. However one scene towards the end of the film would make those fans take Doctor Strange's "be careful what you wish for" advice to heart.

As the MCU Spidey battles the Green Goblin, he prepares to kill him. However, just before Tom can deliver the final blow, Tobey's Spidey stops him. That's not who Spider-Man is. In that moment, though, the Goblin takes advantage of Tobey's decision, stabbing him in the gut with his goblin glider, the very same thing which killed the Green Goblin himself in 2002's Spider-Man.

Though it turns out to be a fakeout death, it's still horrifying to think that the film would unceremoniously kill off not only any Peter Parker, but the original cinematic iteration of the character. Tobey's Peter is beloved among fans, and even just by watching him in his brief screen time in No Way Home, it's easy to see why.

Tobey's almost-death felt like a goblin glider to the abdomen for the audience who just wanted to see their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man return.
