Spider-Woman: 10 Things You Need To Know Before Her Movie

9. Spider-Woman's Origin Story

Whereas Peter Parker gained his abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider, Jessica Drew's transformation into Spider-Woman was vastly different. Born in London to a pair of HYDRA scientists, it was actually Jessica's father who used an experimental serum - comprised of irradiated spider blood - to try and cure his daughter after she had been exposed to a lethal dose of uranium as a child.

It didn't appear to work, but the High Evolutionary placed Jessica in a special genetic accelerator which kept her alive in stasis and stopped her from ageing. Decades later, she finally emerged from that artificially induced slumber with a whole host of superpowers...but still a teenager.

There's a lot of potential to a storyline like that on screen, though it's worth noting that the Ultimate version of Spider-Woman was actually a clone of Peter Parker's. Should Sony Pictures decide to head down the route of cloning (opening the door to appearances from characters like Ben Reilly and Kaine), that obviously opens the door to a whole new host of stories.
