3. It's Inspired By Ultimate Spider-Man

The good news for Spider-Man comic fans is that the upcoming film will be based on Brian Michael Bendis' excellent run on Ultimate Spider-Man.

That classic arc saw Spidey trying to balance school, his family and his burgeoning romantic life with his responsibilities as a hero, in a modernised, slow-burning arc that was critically acclaimed and adored by fans. It also gave its origin story to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.

Given that this isn't an origin story, it's unlikely Watts and Marvel will dedicate quite as long to Peter Parker becoming Spidey, but the interesting idea in Ultimate Spider-Man was that his powers weren't quite as fully formed, as he grew into balancing his life and his abilities. That would suggest this is going to be another superhero movie that heavily plays on the powers as puberty allegory.
