St George's Day 2013: 10 Greatest Ever British Movie Bad Guys

9. Harold Shand (The Long Good Friday)

long_good_friday Bob Hoskins is more recognisable to me as Roger Rabbit's mate or that bloke from those old BT adverts (I am being kind and not going to mention Super Mario Bros.), so imagine my surprise to find out that he is just as likely to bottle your face as he is to crack wise with an animated rabbit. Harold Shand is the tough as nails London crime boss who can apparently scare the beejesus out of the Mafia in this classic Brit film. Not afraid to get his hands dirty by which I obviously mean bottle someone in the face or, if he isn't feeling particularly energetic, then he has no problems getting one of his cronies to take a machete to your buttocks. Nasty guy. Nice suits.
