Stanley Kubrick: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

8. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

eyes wide shut Kubrick's last film, Eyes Wide Shut starred Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise and is one of the most erotic films I have ever seen. It features orgies, masks, dreams and murder. A most unusual Kubrick film. Eyes Wide Shut was a great success, and easily the greatest film of '99. Kubrick worked himself to death, suffering a heart-attack only five days following his screening for Warner Brothers his final cut of the film. But if anything, Eyes Wide Shut was one hell of a leaving gift, a wonderful film featuring top acting, wonderful dialogue and visuals as-well as an incredibly interesting plot and the chance to see Nicole Kidman with most of her clothes off. Based upon Dream Story by Arthur Schnitzler, it stars, alongside Kidman and Cruise - then husband and wife - Sydney Pollack and the wonderful and underappreciated Alan Cumming. Eyes Wide Shut also holds a world record for the longest constant movie shoot which lasted 400 days. Woody Allen and Steve Martin were considered for the role of the Jewish protagonist and one must wonder that the film wouldn't have worked out so well had either of the two been involved in Kubrick's idea of making it a sexual comedy, a sort of X-Rated Lolita with of-age actors. Eyes Wide Shut was a wonderful parting gift from Kubrick, even though he wasn't planning on parting with us.

I like Stanley Kubrick, Gore Vidal & Daniel Day-Lewis. I do not like the United States, Obama and most other Presidents.
