1. The Same Writers
There is no denying that one of the biggest problem with the new movies has been the shabby writing. Both movies have been produced and penned by Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The dynamic script-writing duo have been responsible for a number of commercial hits and that is presumably why they keep getting writing gigs in Hollywood. They know how to get people into the cinema and then parade those figures as evidence of their success. But how many of you choose to sit down and watch a blu-ray copy of the Michael Bay Transformers movies? Or Cowboys and Aliens? .Anybody? Is the modern version of Hawaii Five-O a program you cant afford to miss? .Anyone? All those projects have been written and produced by Orci & Kurtzman and they all are fine examples of how not to write for the screen. Taking Transformers, those films might have made a tonne of money at the box office but they have also been labelled as abominations of cinema. Michael Bay gets a lot of the flack but keep in mind that the screenplay wasnt universally loved either. Both of Abrams Star Trek movies suffered from plot holes, unrealistic conveniences and terrible dialogue. There was some hope that new blood might come in and save the screenplay for Star Trek 3, but unfortunately both Orci and Kurtzman are back for writing duties. And dont forget that Damon Lidelof, the genius that ruined Prometheus, will also be tagging along to help them screw things up. That is why there is little hope that the third movie will be better scripted because none of the above mentioned writers seem to learn from their mistakes. And they fail to acknowledge any of the shortcomings of Into Darkness to show they understand where they went wrong. Instead they opt to go aggressively on the defence. But normally people who aggressively defend their argument, deep down they know that they are in the wrong.
