3. Sam Raimi
Now here's a choice perhaps a little out of left field. Sam Raimi is of course the man behind Evil Dead, Spider-Man and the recent Oz: The Great And Powerful. His unique style is a big calling card and could certainly give Star Trek a new perspective. His recent production of The Evil Dead remake has once again thrown his name into the pop culture ring, and that film's success could provide some momentum for Raimi to negotiate his way into Star Trek should he so wish. Now I would say that Raimi's lack of sci-fi on his CV may be a drawback, but the real alarm bell sounds when you realise that Raimi isn't very good at a third installment in a beloved franchise. Yes, Spider-Man 3 wasn't exactly the best received superhero movie ever. In fact, my friend Will once got so angry at the movie that after he finished watching, he took to the disc out of the DVD player and snapped it in half in a silent rage. True story. So perhaps Raimi should stay away from Star Trek III, if only to save Will from an early heart attack.
