2. Christopher Lloyd As Commander Kruge (Star Trek III: The Search For Spock)
After Ricardo Montalbans stellar performance in Star Trek II, it raised the game for the actor who would take villain duties in the follow up film. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock carried on from where The Wrath Of Khan finished. It told the story of Kirk going back to the planet Genesis to find Spock's body. The original plan was to have Romulans as the antagonists; they were going to go to investigate Genesis due to it appearing seemingly out of nowhere. The fan favourite Bird Of Prey ship that made its debut in this film was originally a Romulan vessel and that is why it has a painted wing pattern underneath it, a pattern that was first seen on the Romulan Bird Of Prey in the Original Series episode, Balance Of Terror. But the creative decision was made to change the Romulans to Klingons and the Romulan Bird Of Prey became the Klingon Bird Of Prey that we know today. Director Leonard Nimoy picked Christopher Lloyd to play the Klingon Commander Kruge, having been a huge fan since seeing Christopher Lloyd in Taxi and One Flew Over The Cookoos Nest. Over the top and theatrical, Lloyd played Kruge in the same manner he played most of the parts he is best remembered for. You can see Lloyd relishing each line as he parades around, pointing and issuing orders or threatening to kill. And behind all the menace, there is a sprinkling of comedy to break through the hard exterior Klingon shell. Battlestar Galactica star Edward James Olmos was also in the running for the role but its hard to imagine anyone else playing Kruge in the exciting and memorable way Christopher Lloyd did.
