Star Trek Beyond: 10 Best Moments

6. Spock's Existential Crisis

Star Trek Beyond
Paramount Pictures

Early on, Spock is informed by two Vulcan elders that Ambassador Spock (aka Leonard Nimoy's Spock Prime) has died, causing him to fall into a funk for a while as he considers his own place in the universe and also in Starfleet.

It's a fascinating scenario to watch unfold, largely because it's so unique to fiction as a whole: thousands of characters in movies have had to deal with the deaths of loved ones, but a parallel dimension version of themselves? It makes Spock's predicament so memorably singular, and naturally, the death of oneself (even an alternate version) is going to weigh far heavier than the demise of another person.

This leads to a great scene between Spock and Bones as they talk it out, and really emphasises how strong the character work in this movie was on the whole.
