Star Trek Beyond: 10 Best Moments

5. Kirk's Diversion

Star Trek Beyond
Paramount Pictures

Easily one of the most entertaining set-pieces in the movie is the Enterprise's assault on Krall's base in order to rescue Uhura, Sulu and the other imprisoned crew members.

While Jaylah, Spock and Bones head to the base to rescue the prisoners, Kirk creates a diversion by riding a motorcycle around the base, using a holographic projection system to beam countless versions of the bike, massively confusing the enemies who remain.

Kirk also spreads a special shielding crystal around the base to protect personnel as they are transported to safety, and in a daring final feat, he manages to reach Jaylah just in time for the pair to be transported as well.

This scene alone is proof of how smart an idea it was to hire Justin Lin as director: he's not the most natural choice for Trek, but when it comes to scintillating action, especially when vehicles are involved, there are few better.
