13. The "Kelvin" Pods
When Krall's incredible swarm of ships attacks the Enterprise and takes off the nacelles (curiously without damaging the warp drive) and then cuts off the "head" of the ship, the crew seem doomed.
But of course Kirk orders an evacuation and mentions the crew escaping using "Kelvin pods". They were clearly named in reference to the USS Kelvin, on which the crew mostly died (including Kirk's father) without escape pods. The disaster obviously inspired their invention.
Kelvin of course is JJ Abrams favourite Easter Egg: a naming convention he adds to films in honour of his grandfather.
