Star Trek Beyond: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

2. Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban)

Star Trek Beyond Jaylah Uhura
Paramount Pictures

Possibly the most pleasant surprise in the entire movie is how much screen time Bones gets, a major step-up from his role in the previous films. Not only is his aforementioned pairing with Spock superbly written and acted, but Urban on the whole gets a number of the film's funniest moments regardless of who he's interacting with.

Many have said that Urban "channels" DeForest Kelley in these movies, and while he does deliver a thoroughly faithful rendition of the character, he also brings plenty of himself to it as well to make it at least partly his own take.

Try not to laugh as Bones' iconic "I'm a doctor, not a..." line is cut-off by the transporter mid-sentence.
