Star Trek: Every Starfleet Starship Class Ranked Worst To Best

42. Kelvin

Star Trek Voyager
Paramount

The USS Kelvin was in service in the 23rd century, with George Kirk serving as first officer. The design was somewhat unusual for Starfleet, as there was a single warp nacelle (similar to the 24th century Freedom class) and a secondary hull that sat above the saucer section, containing the shuttle bay.

In the prime timeline, this vessel was retired at the end of her service. However, in an alternate timeline created by the Mad Romulan Nero, the Kelvin was destroyed by the mining ship Narrada.

It had the misfortune of being too close when the other ship arrived through a black hole. The Narrada proceeded to fire torpedos at the Kelvin, ripping it apart before Kirk, listening to the birth of his son on an escaping shuttle, piloted the vessel directly into the heart of the Narrada to ensure the crew's escape.

Though the Kelvin saw little service after this, it was posthusmasly remembered - in collectible salt shaker fashion!
