6. Exceptional FX

There are a lot of reasons to roll your eyes at TMP, starting with the terrible pacing and going from there. But one thing I don€™t think anyone can complain about are the effects. Just look the scene where Scotty takes Kirk on a tour of the outside of the Enterprise.

THAT is one incredibly detailed model. It actually looks like something real, which technically it was, being a model. Other SFX are equally wonderful and amazing, like the shots of the Klingon battle-cruisers heading toward V€™Ger, and V€™Ger itself, once the clouds were gone. That this is a movie that came out in 1979, and that the effects have aged so well, tells us a lot about their quality.
