Star Wars: 10 Classic Characters Who Need Their Own Movie

2. Qui Gon Jinn

To many, Qui Gon was one of the only positive points within The Phantom Menace, and while I disagree that the film itself was bad, I cannot deny that Liam Neeson's rebellious Jedi was one of the standout elements of the film. Like many characters on this list, Qui Gon has had a substantial past and future written across the expanded universe, but hasn't transferred onscreen.

Qui Gon has appeared in just one film, and yet he is remembered poignantly alongside other great Jedi such as Mace Windu and Yoda. His legacy in the franchise, like Sifo-Dyas, is monumental, having both found Anakin and been the first Jedi to discover the secret to becoming one with the force after death. A spin-off film would not only give Liam Neeson - a fine actor - the chance to return to the Star Wars universe but could also explore elements of the lore which are directly significant to the main 'sextet' of films.

Qui Gon Jinn needs his own movie as, like Darth Maul in the same film, an outstanding character was created only to be killed off far too quickly. An account of Qui Gon's early adventures could also intersect with the origins of both Dooku and Obi Wan, and would make his final stand against Maul and eventual death far more affecting. I feel that Liam Neeson could return as Jinn, but if needs be, a younger actor could be cast to play him as a younger Jedi in his rogue-prime, travelling the galaxy following his own guidelines and not conforming as an emotionless and thoughtless Jedi, a far too common event in the prequels.
