Star Wars: 10 Epic Lightsaber Duels NOT In The Movies
8. Ahsoka Tano VS Darth Vader (Star Wars Rebels S02 E22)
The final episode of the second season of Star Wars Rebels culminated in an epic "long awaited meeting" between Ahsoka Tano and her old master Anakin Skywalker, after Tano sweeps in to save Ezra from the Sith Lord's blade.
The fight between the two unhinged characters is insane, but it's the dialogue that proceeds it that cements Ahsoka and Vader's duel as an iconic moment in the franchise. Unable to come to terms with Anakin's turn to the Dark Side, Ahsoka vows to "avenge his death", rebuffing Vader's quip that "revenge is not the Jedi way" with her insistence that "I am no Jedi."
Unlike Luke, who would later insist the goodness that remained in Vader, Ahsoka fights to kill right up to the moment she inadvertently smashes Vader's helmet - seeing the tortured eye of Anakin behind the mask.
But Vader proves he is Anakin no longer, as he continues to clash blades with Ahsoka, desperate to destroy the last connection to his Jedi past.
The duel ends on an ambiguous note, as the camera pans to Morai flying off into the night, leaving Ahsoka's fate ambiguous until later episodes of the show.
Interestingly, the iconic shot of an angular Darth Vader clashing blades with his former apprentice was based on an early piece of Ralph McQuarrie concept art depicting an encounter between Luke and Vader that was never set to film.
