8. When a Cosplayer Just Can't Choose
Okay, so there's something pretty cool about Indiana Jones disguising himself like a stormtrooper. Not only is it hilarious, but unique and done well. It works because it is taking two concepts people are already very familiar with and putting them together. The ensemble is at its base Star Wars, but includes the iconic resonance of Dr. Jones' hat, coat, and (safe to say) whip on the belt. However there is a thin line between being originality in costume and being, dare the word be used, nerdy. When the combination of themes clashes too much or the references are too obscure for people to get that fellow cosplayers don't immediately understand what is going on with a costume the end result is always embarrassing.
