Star Wars: 10 Secrets Of Mos Eisley Cantina You Need To Know

There's more to Star Wars' most famous bar than just the iconic music.

The Mos Eisley Cantina is one of the most recognisable locations in the Star Wars universe.

The theme music that goes along with Luke and Obi-Wan's visit is an earworm that never really seems to leave your brain, though this is far from the most interesting or long-lasting fact about the place.

Thanks to the films, the old Expanded Universe and wider canon material, there is a lot to be said about this little dive than just the lovely tunes of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes.

It has a name, rather than just being 'the cantina', and has a varied and interesting list of patrons. Many monumental missions have begun in the stools and tables around the bar, with the house rules reminding any at said bar to buy their neighbours a drink, lest things turn ugly.

It was the place that saw the Hutts take control of the crime trade on Tatooine, leading to many exciting encounters, such as that time when Han Solo absolutely, definitely, unquestionably shot first.

There are other things to remember about this bar but it really is important to keep that piece of information in mind as well!

10. It Has A Name

The canon tie-in book, Star Wars: Complete Locations by Simon Beecroft, Kerrie Dougherty, Jason Fry, James Luceno and Kristin Lund, revealed that the cantina was actually named Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina by the time that Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi came to meet Han Solo. It was one of the more popular if not dangerous locales in Mos Eisley.

It was a popular spot for smugglers and bounty hunter to pick up new jobs and for a time, the bounty hunter guild operated some of their campaigns while using the place as a front.

For a long time, Chalmun's was a known spot for those in the employ of Jabba the Hutt. Greedo may have been the most recognisable and unlucky employee of Jabba's to take a drink there but he was far from the only one.

In the fourth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, "Sphere of Influence", several of his associates were involved in a firefight while they used the bar for a hostage negotiation, while may not have been the smartest move when dealing with the Pantoran Supreme Chairman, and the daughter they'd taken.

These bounty hunters may have been mean, yet the Jedi Padawan Ashoka Tano, who had been sent to reclaim the Chairman's daughter, was not impressed.
