Viewers were blown away the first time they laid eyes on Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber. Not only was it an incredible reveal, it made fans realise there could be alternative versions of the legendary weapon. Although casual viewers will be familiar with Kylo Ren's cross-guard blade or the Darksaber, there are well over a dozen versions of the lightsaber.

According to the book, Gadgets and Gear, there is a whip version with a blade that extend to several meters. The Star Wars Lightsabers book mentions Dual-phase lightsabers that can extend and shorten in size. While younglings are in Jedi training, they use low-power lightsabers that don't cause permanent damage. In Attack of the Clones, we see Count Dooku wields a blade with a curved hilt (although this was to accommodate the actor, Christopher Lee, who suffered arthritis in his hands).

One of the lesser-known but coolest variations is the lightsaber rifle. In the 2017 comic, Darth Vader #9, we see a person use this weapon to shoot lightsaber energy from a gun. Just when you thought lightsabers couldn't be cooler, you learn they come in gun form.
