Star Wars: 10 Things Colin Trevorrow's Episode 9 Script Did Better Than The Rise Of Skywalker

After Luke's final words to Kylo at the end of The Last Jedi ("I'll see you around, kid"), this seemed like a given.

For two years after the release of Episode VIII, fans were excited to see Force Ghost Luke taunting his nephew from beyond the grave, convincing him to abandon his old ways and rejoin The Light Side.

The Duel Of The Fates script took this throwaway line quite literally, as it showcased Luke doing just that, even grabbing Ben's lightsaber during his final confrontation with Rey.

While this would have raised a few questions (why didn't Obi-Wan do this to Vader years back? why hadn't Anakin tried showing Kylo the error of his ways?), all swept under the rug by The Rise Of Skywalker's reveal that Force users have to open themselves up to the spirits of the Jedi who have passed, it would have been a pretty cool moment to see.

Of course, the whole Force-Ghost-grabbing-a-lightsaber element of the script found its way into The Rise Of Skywalker eventually, albeit in a totally different context. In the movie we got, Ghost Luke catches his old lightsaber as Rey throws it into a fire, snarkily saying "a Jedi's weapon deserves more respect", in an obvious jab at The Last Jedi.

Classy.
