Star Wars: 10 Things You Never Knew About General Grievous

7. Siding With The Separatists To Save His People

The turning point in Grievous' life came after Kammur's death, when the Republic joined the fight against his people and set up numerous trade routes that blocked the planet from engaging in any form of communication in the free market.

Suddenly desperate, Grievous decided to join the Separatist-fronted Banking Clan, who wanted the warlord to lead their growing droid army in return for freeing his planet from the Republic's rule.

Having agreed to lead the Separatist army, Grevious began to "improve" his strength and fighting abilities by fitting himself with powerful cybernetics. He became more powerful than ever, and even though he was nothing more than a puppet for Separatist leader Count Dooku to control, he loved his newfound power and saw it as an opportunity to hurt the Republic and destroy the Jedi.

Although much of this backstory hasn't been confirmed outside of the Legends continuity, it nonetheless paints a striking portrait of the man Grievous once was, and the monster he was now destined to become.
