Star Wars: 10 Times Obi-Wan Kenobi Broke His Own Rules

3. Letting Anakin Live

The prequel film trilogy may not be everyone's favourite instalments within the Star Wars franchise, but that doesn't mean it didn't have some brilliantly choreographed fight scenes. Among them was Kenobi's battle against his former apprentice, Anakin, on a lava-covered planet to stop the latter from joining Palpatine.

In the battle's intense climax, Kenobi brutally cuts Anakin's legs off after attempting to jump behind him, catching alight and burning as his screams and hatred towards Kenobi reach the former master's ears. Believing that he will succumb to his horrific injuries before dying, Kenobi walks away to save Queen Padme and leave the fallen Jedi behind.

Arguably one of the coldest actions Kenobi ever conducted, he also broke a Jedi code as he let a Sith Lord live. He may have thought that he would have died, but instead, he inadvertently created one of the most iconic antagonists in cinematic history who would come to haunt him in the show's canon years down the line.

Furthermore, he broke his friendship with Anakin as he screams in pain and hatred. Kenobi could have ended his suffering as an act of mercy and stopped the influence of Palpatine while retaining what little friendship they had left for one another. Instead, he abandoned Anakin at a time when he could have received one last act of mercy from the person who he trusted and loved the most.
