Star Wars: 10 Times Obi-Wan Kenobi Broke His Own Rules

2. Saving Satine

In the second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Mandalore and the key characters who reside on the planet played a big part throughout it and in future episodes. One of these was the Duchess of Mandalore, Satine Kryze, who shared a romantic past with Obi-Wan Kenobi before he became a Jedi.

After Darth Maul returns to exact his revenge against Obi-Wan for slicing him in half in The Phantom Menace, he takes control of Mandalore's militia group, Death Watch, and imprisons the duchess. Learning of her fate, Kenobi attempts to save her and free the planet from Maul's grasp, even if he knows it will lead him into a deadly trap.

As explained by Anakin to his future wife Padme in the prequel film, Attack of the Clones, love and compassion are forbidden for a Jedi and a code that everyone who serves the light side of the Force is more than aware of. Known to follow the rules during the prequel era of films and television shows, Kenobi acts on his impulse and ignores these rules altogether to fulfil his own personal agenda.

Despite his attempts to look past the trap that has been set before him and overpower Maul, the former Sith Lord's anger is far greater than Kenobi's compassion and ends Satine's life, making the Jedi's rescue mission meaningless.
